Opened a Hitachi (HTS721010A9E630) 1TB drive in our Clean Room. The drive was dropped and was making clicking sounds. After opening the drive, we noticed very little contamination on the top platter and no noticeable scratches on the top platter. After removing the read/write heads, 2 of the heads had tiny pieces of contaminants on there. Time to look for a compatible donor to attempt a head swap. Let’s go!
