Seagate 500GB Hard Drive — Clean Room Recovery

Customer mailed in a Seagate 500GB Hard Drive that was dropped and is making beeping sounds. Customer powered on the drive multiple times.

Diagnosis: We opened the drive cover and sure enough the issue was “Stiction.” The read/write heads were stuck on the platters, roughly 40% into the drive. There was very light contamination on the top platter.

We were able to gain access to the data on the drive and start the imaging process.
