Seagate (ST3000Dm001) Clean Room Recovery
Received a mail in from a customer who has a Seagate (ST3000Dm001) 3TB Drive that is clicking. The drive is an internal drive that stopped powering on.
Diagnosis: We opened your drive cover in our Clean Room and saw that the top visible platter was clean.
We removed the read/write heads from the drive and inspected it under the microscope and unfortunately we saw the problem here. Head 1 on the drive is heavily contaminated. The head has made contact with the platter and unfortunately is no longer functional.
