Opened a Western Digital 4TB (WD40NMZW-11GX6S1) in our Clean Room. The drive took a drop and is making clicking sounds. After opening the drive cover, there was obvious signs of media damage on the top platter. We removed the read/write heads from the drive and inspected them under a microscope. Most of the heads had physical damage. Let’s move forward with a head swap.
