Opened a Western Digital 500GB (WD5000LMVW-11CKRS0) in our Clean Room. The drive was dropped and was making clicking sounds. After opening the drive cover, the inside looked great! No scratches on the top platter, air filter was clean, and the sliders on the read/write heads were flawless. There is a chance that the issue might be firmware corruption and we might not need to replace the heads. Let’s see what happens 😉
